Solid Color Background Remover

Drop in as many images as you like and solid backgrounds such as magenta are removed, leaving transparent PNGs. Images are never uploaded — they are processed only in this browser.

How to use

  1. Add images — drag them onto the box above (or anywhere on the page) or click to choose. To pick a whole folder, use “choose a folder”. You can add many at once; dropping a folder adds everything inside, subfolders included. Screenshots can be pasted directly (Ctrl+V, or ⌘V on a Mac).
  2. Convert — the background color and type are detected for each image automatically, and each card shows the detected color.
    • Compare: hover over a card image (or press and hold on a phone) to see the original. “Show originals” switches all cards at once, and the magnifier opens a large view (hold to see the original, ←/→ for the next image).
    • Check: a black or white background makes leftover background color at the edges easy to spot. Use “Card size” −/+ to fit more or fewer images on screen.
    • Redo a few: click images to select them and convert: only the selected ones are redone and the other results stay. Shift-click selects a range, and “Select failed” picks only skipped or failed cards. × at the top right of a card removes it from the list.
  3. Download — use the Download link on each card, or “Download zip” to get everything at once (dropped folders keep their structure inside the zip). Use “Download size” and “256 colors” to get smaller files, for all images or card by card. Choose PNG, WebP or JPG under “Format”; for JPG and WebP, a lower “Quality” gives smaller files. Only PNG and WebP keep a transparent background; JPG fills transparent areas with white. To just resize without removing the background, set the background type to “Keep background”.

Works best with

This tool is built for images whose background is a single flat color.

Photos with busy backgrounds are not a good fit — an AI tool that recognizes object shapes will do better there.

Why is magenta a good background?

Separating by color only works if the background color barely appears in the object. Magenta (#FF00FF) is full red and blue with zero green, so it is rare in characters and props, and how much of it is blended into an edge can be measured precisely. If your object has lots of green, use magenta; if it has lots of pink or purple, use green.

Not quite right? Settings guide

Open “Fine-tuning” above to adjust these with sliders, then select only the cards that need it and press “Convert n selected” to redo just those. With nothing selected, “Convert again with new settings” redoes everything.

A line of background color remains around the object
Raise “Edge cleanup width”. If it still remains, raise “Keep threshold” a little for softer edges.
A glow around the object remains
Raise “Remove threshold” and “Light background detection”. For vivid backgrounds, turn on “Also remove colored glows”, and widen “Glow color range” if the glow color falls outside it.
Object edges get clipped
Lower “Remove threshold” and “Light background detection” instead. If the object contains colors close to the background, regenerating it with a different background color is the surest fix.
Pink specks remain on sand or orange areas
Turn on “Fix half-tinted pixels”, and raise “Search distance for the fix” if some remain.
An image was skipped
The card shows the reason. “No clear background color” means the object covers almost the whole border. Black backgrounds are skipped in Auto because outlines would be erased too; choose “Dull / pale solid” to process them anyway.

FAQ

Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Images are processed only in this browser and are never uploaded. They are gone when you close the page.
Is it free?
Yes. The site is supported by ads.
Which files can I use?
Any image your browser can open, such as PNG, JPG, WebP, BMP or GIF (first frame), plus iPhone HEIC photos. Results are PNG or WebP (transparency kept) or JPG (transparent areas become white).
How many images at once?
There is no fixed limit. Images are processed one after another; a 2048×2048 image usually takes about a second. Very large batches may slow down depending on your device's memory.
Are my settings saved?
Changed settings are remembered in this browser only, so they are still there next time. “Reset to defaults” clears them.
